Really short, and not a Metroidvania! But, it definitely shares some DNA and is very much worth playing. The game itself is linear, with stages progressing forward and no backtracking. Sheepy gets a few abilities along the way (double-jump and a few surprises). Controls feel nice and smooth.

The pixel art is gorgeous. The characters and environments are incredibly well animated, with beautiful parallax backgrounds as well as interesting foreground details. Sheepy’s animations are adorable, and I love how he really feels like a bouncy plushy creature. Enjoyed the soundtrack as well. Some of the tracks kind of reminded me of the movie Annihilation.

The atmosphere is spooky and mysterious - I’d hesitate to call it horror or gore, but you’ll run across some unsettling scenes. It really nails the isolation aspect alongside that sinking feeling of “something terrible happened here”. It leaves you with more questions than answers, which I think is a good thing in this case.

Usually we’re worried about games over-staying their welcome, but this one under-stayed! I can’t wait to see what else the developer has in store. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would love to see Sheepy’s world revisited and expanded someday.
